1. Find a type of movement that you actually enjoy.
For years, I tried to push myself in spin class and runs, just to find out I can do the workouts I love and get even better results. Have you ever tried a more low-impact of workout such as yoga or pilates? Check out my recent post on lagree which talks all about my experience trying out this form of pilates. This is the year to go out of your comfort zone and try out something new!
2. Block out the outside noise.
We’re getting older, and that means it’s time to cut the high school crap. Forget about what everyone else is doing. If you ever want to get anywhere, start to realize that you’re going to have to put a little more attention on yourself. Imagine a world where you thought about yourself and your dreams as much as you thought about other people. Become the main character.
3. Get outside.
Anyone can say they’re going to do something, but how many people actually take the action. To become HER, I want you to get outside. Do the most simple thing like going on a walk while listening to an audiobook. Hold yourself accountable and actually do the things you say you’re going to do. Simply getting outside for whatever reason is a great way to instill this habit.
4. Do what you’re most scared of.
The funny thing is that the one thing you’re trying to avoid or push off is exactly what you should be doing in this moment. Fear has more control over us than we think. Luckily, all we have to do is be brave and start to take confident action on the things that scare us the most. Our brain will slowly reprogram and realize that it no longer needs to protect us. Guess who’s going skydiving this summer?!?
5. Make looking put together a priority.
Why is it that we shave our entire bodies, buy a new perfume, and wear our most pristine outfit when we’re trying to impress someone new, but when it comes to ourselves we don’t bother putting in a tenth of the effort. Everyone talks about self-love, but I’ve always wondered how to actually start loving myself. Making looking put together a priority no matter the occasion has been a great way to feel 100x more confident and trustworthy in myself. Who’s better to waste those expensive makeup and hair products on than yourself?

6. Stop taking it so seriously.
Simply put, it’s not that serious. Not to undermine your worries and struggles, but it won’t benefit anyone but yourself to start shifting your mindset not to care as much. Of course to become HER we must stay on top of things and be responsible, but if you’re letting little setbacks and arguments affect the course of your day, think about how serious these things actually are. Zoom out and see things from a wider perspective. More specifically, think about what you will want to have focused on when you look back five years down the line.
7. Immerse yourself in something new.
Let me tell you, it’s the year of finding our new passions. Because there’s no more of wishing we were a sexy, pro snowboarder on the slopes last winter or took weekly pottery classes with our friends and got the cutest Instagram posts. It’s the year when we dive in and immerse ourselves in a sick new hobby that sooner or later will be an amazing part of our identities. Put down the phone and start Googling art studios, kickboxing gyms, or anything your heart may desire.
8. Think in terms of delayed gratification.
We live in a world that’s addicted to short-term gratification. We get everything fast and at our fingertips. But sometimes, the things we want most can’t be achieved so seamlessly. We have to put in work even when we know we won’t have results for months on end. This is why as HER, we have to change our mindsets and begin thinking in terms of delayed gratification. Whatever you want, write it down and write down how having this will make you feel. However long achieving this goal is going to take, think of it as a waiting period until you’ll feel a certain way. This way, you’re reminded of your true purpose and are less likely to give up.
9. Become unique.
As corny as it sounds, become the trendsetter. Because what better year to find out that we are actually capable of starting the trends that we so religiously follow. Do something different, whatever it is. Get a new drink at the bar that no one has tried and tell all your friends about it. Research new brands and put people on to ones you end up loving. Make it the year where you stop following and start creating. You’ll see how good it feels.
