These uncommon skincare secrets for college students will absolutely shock you! Sometimes the best solutions to our problems are not what we’re expecting, but we’re here to help!

uncommon skincare secrets for college students

Skincare is an industry that can be so overwhelming at times. So many different brands and specialists trying to push you so many different products and methods.

A Guide To Her wants all of our readers to have perfect skin, so we are bringing you the uncommon but foolproof secrets that are bound to transform your skin.

Personally, my skin was such an issue for me all through high school, and I was finally able to gain control back with the methods I’ll teach you all about!

This post is all about skincare secrets for college students!

1. Spearmint Tea

Spearmint tea is not commonly talked about but has made the biggest difference in my skin! Drinking 1-2 cups a day has been proven to kill acne-causing bacteria and in turn lead to clearer skin. It is highly antioxidant and overall amazing for you.

Try out at least a cup a day for two weeks and watch the magic happen before your eyes!

2. Blue Light Frequency

I’m sure you’ve heard of red light frequency being the biggest rave recently. I’m here to talk about blue light! The wavelength of blue light has an antimicrobial effect, and is able to kill several types of bacteria that could be causing acne deep in your pores.

After starting to use a blue light frequency mask for 30 minutes once a week, I saw the biggest difference in my skin! Try it out and you will be surprised. I love the mask from Omnilux, but Ora is a more affordable alternative that I love as well.

3. No Washing In The Morning

Over washing can definitely be a huge culprit of skin problems. The skin produces natural oils that should not constantly be stripped. In turn, it may start producing an excess amount of oil because of the dryness that will eventually turn into acne.

Try out no washing in the mornings and see if that makes a difference! But don’t forget to switch your pillowcase every 1-3 days to prevent the spreading of bacteria at night!

4. Cut Out Eggs

Eggs are my favorite. Unfortunately, I have found that they are not my skin’s favorite. They are full of progesterone, which is an acne-triggering hormone.

If you think you have hormonal acne, I would definitely consider doing the elimination diet with eggs. This consists of cutting out the food for 21 days and then reintroducing it to see if it is causing adverse reactions.

5. Paleolithic Diet

On the trend of food, one thing I have found is that diet makes all the difference with skin. You could have the best products and treatments, but a diet lacking in the nutrients your body truly needs will stall your progress.

I am not 100% strict with it and always make sure to listen to my body, but I love the Paleo diet because it cuts out the inflammatory foods that could very well be causing acne as a reaction in your body. If you have skin problems, definitely try to stay away from gluten, dairy, and sugar. This can make all the difference!

6. Chlorophyll

Chlorophyll has been absolutely life changing for my skin’s health. One week into making my chlorophyll drink every morning, all of my friends were asking me if I was doing anything differently because I was glowing!

The drink I like to make is a glass of water with 10 drops of Chlorophyll (I get mine from Whole Foods), the juice from half a lemon, and a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar. The lemon gets rid of the vinegar taste, and the results are so worth it!

7. Gut-Friendly Foods

Your skin is a reflection of your gut, so essentially all you need to do is get your gut in check. That can sound so overwhelming, especially in college when you probably can’t invest in a gut health specialist.

The trick that I have found to work the best is to incorporate one gut-friendly food every day. My favorites are spicy kimchi, Poppi drinks or any gut-friendly healthy soda, and yogurt (my favorite for gut-health is the Culina brand!)

It’s such an easy addition to your daily routine but I promise you it will make the biggest difference!

At the end of the day, don’t forget that skin is all internal, and any external remedies should just be add-ons! I feel we commonly neglect our inner body and health and try to supplement with products and routines. By getting in touch with what your body truly needs, your skin will clear 100x faster!

This post was all about the skincare secrets you can’t miss!
