Technology is proven to make us more alert and wakes our brain up. This is why it is absolutely vital to remove all technology for at least the last hour before bed. This ensures that we allow our brain to have time to shut off. Furthermore, if you do need to use technology close to bedtime, make sure to use blue-light protecting glasses so that your body is able to produce optimal melatonin levels.

2. Plan ahead

We all know how important it is to have a plan for our day. It helps with productivity, time management, stress relief, and more. If you’re not doing so already, make sure you are planning your day the week or night before! By doing this, you will never be kept awake with thoughts about everything you need to do the next day because you know that it is all accounted for. It is super satisfying to plan your day and decreases stress a ton!

3. Brain dump your thoughts

Along with writing a plan, it is important to let out your thoughts and ideas onto paper before bed. I love to dedicate at least ten minutes to journaling every night. I give myself time to write about my day, hash out any ideas I have, and of course some time for gratitude, highlighting some of my favorite parts of the day. I always find myself feeling so much more relaxed after this ritual!

Time blocking is the biggest organization skill that I have learned thus far. Learning to manage your time is one thing, but time blocking takes it all to the next level. I love to use Google Calendar to do this. I start off by blocking off the non negotiable appointments that I have planned for my week. Then I am able to organize the rest of the open time for the things that I need to do. It is also great to be able to see how much time you spent for each category of your life at the end of the week!

2. Stylebook

The app Stylebook has made me feel like I’m in Clueless every single day! It is a virtual closet app that helps you organize your outfits for the week by inputting the pieces of clothing you own into the app and then mixing and matching them. Using the app makes getting dressed so fun and easy! I am never stressed out about what I’m going to wear because I have it all planned out in the app in advance. An easy way to input your clothing rather than taking a photo of each piece is by searching them online and uploading the screenshot instead!

3. Decluttering

Decluttering goes hand in hand with organization. If you have too much stuff that you don’t use, there’s no point in even trying to organize it all. I love following the teachings of Marie Kondo in her book The Magic of Tidying Up. She recommends starting to declutter your items section by section. For example, put all of your clothes from all areas of the house on your bed and tackle it before moving to any other items. Her philosophy is that you should decide whether to declutter something by decide whether it sparks joy in you, and if not, thanking it for the use you got out of it!

4. Sections

A similar trick I go by on a day-to-day basis is having different sections for everything in my space. I make sure to separate my living space according to sections so that it is easy to know where everything goes. Each drawer is dedicated to something else, rather than trying to shove all different items into one drawer. This helps immensely whenever I’m trying to find something quickly as well!

5. Weekly Review

As much as you try to keep your life organized throughout the week, things happen. Things will inevitably become messy and end up out of place by the end of the week. That’s why having a weekly review to resettle yourself while on your organization journey is vital. During this weekly review, I like to go through my Google Calendar and see what tweaks I can make for my time blocking schedule the next week so it ends up more productive. I also like to tidy up my room and bathroom, and choose one small drawer or area to declutter so that nothing gets too out of hand!

• 8 oz. of water

• juice of half a lemon
• a tablespoon of chia seeds
• a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar

2. Food Sensitivity Test

Once I found out the foods that I was sensitive to and cut them out of my diet, everything changed! Sometimes we may not be allergic to a food but we can be sensitive to it which can cause inflammation in the body and in turn lead to skin conditions like acne or eczema. You can get a food sensitivity test at any nearby naturopath! It also helps to cut out foods separately for at least 30 days each to really see if there is a difference being made in how you feel.

3. Daily Movement

Getting your body moving and breaking a sweat each and every day is a huge game changer. Toxins are immediately flushed out and your skin is forced to turnover. Going too long without movement is a great way to get your body stuck and for toxins to build up. Just make sure you focus on hydration after all that movement!

4. The Simpler, The Better

Skincare trends are way too tempting. Every product looks so fun and has the cutest packaging, making you want to run to the store and buy it. However, all of these different active products and fragrances can sometimes cause your skin to react badly. It is better to learn earlier than later that a simple skincare routine is always the best option! Start slow with a good cleanser and moisturizer and slowly add the in actives under the care of a certified dermatologist or esthetician!

A lot of probiotics that are recommended for the health of your gut and skin have a hard time staying alive during the trip from your mouth to your stomach. Summer is right around the corner, and if you’re anything like me, its the time when you want to look and feel your best. Feeling amazing is my priority, so here are my top tips that get me healthy and snatched just in time for summer without fail. Implement these tactics and you are sure to feel the best you ever have this summer!

1. Get Moving

It doesn’t matter what you do or how often you do it, all I have to say is get moving! Moving your body and breaking a sweat a few times is a week will inevitably make you feel incredible. Our bodies are meant to move, so implementing this habit can release pent up energy along with get our bodies fit and strong!

My personal routine at the moment includes two pilates classes, one strength class that involves weights, and at least three thirty minute walks per week. I find that this variation fits in with my busy schedule but gives me enough movement to where I am feeling good everyday!

2. Be Still

On the contrary, it is so important to find the time to be still. Especially as our time in school dwindles down and finals come around, stress increases and the time that we put aside for ourselves tends to drastically decrease. I urge you to give yourself the love and attention and set aside some time for presence in your body.

One way I like to do this is by doing a 5-minute Youtube meditation before I get out of bed in the morning. I also love doing a weekly hour-long meditation class through Classpass since its hard for me to sit still on my own for that long. I also finding that going in for a class once a week reminds me of my intentions and makes sure I stay on track throughout the month!

3. Gut Health

If there’s one thing I prioritize in my wellness journey and routine, its my gut health. Gut health is reflected in mood, skin health, digestive health, and many other areas. Taking a daily probiotic can be great, but you can also get probiotics in natural ways such as through kimchi, sauerkraut, or yogurt.

I also like to implement tips such as waiting to drink my coffee after eating, staying hydrated, reducing stress levels, and eating more fiber. Little steps and additions to your routine can go a much longer way than you would expect!

4. Setting Intentions

Personally, summer is a time of resetting my life and putting myself on a new path. I have more time to do things that I have been putting off and align into my highest self. To improve my mental wellness and avoid getting overwhelmed with all of my goals, I really enjoy setting intentions. I ask myself questions like “Why am I doing the things that I am doing?” and “Where would I like to see myself at the end of this year?”

Especially in college, summer or the end of the school year can be a very transformative period. By consciously setting intentions, we can ensure that we are making the most of this time that we have to ourselves, along with the amazing weather!

When summer starts to come around, so do the diets. They’re shoved up your throat and can create stress and anxiety in many. It’s time to say goodbye to these short term solutions. Whole foods is all you need.

Consuming a diet that consists solely of whole foods is what our body is so desperately longing for. The elimination of processed gluten and sugar along with the addition of more natural sources of fiber and protein is a game changer. Pay closer to attention to what you are eating and its ingredients. Become hyper aware of how what you are putting in your body makes you feel. At the end of the day, that is all that matters!
